Photos are captured in Leia Image Format

JPEG: All images captured in LeiaCam are both 3D and 2D and saved in the Leia Image Format with the file extension .jpeg at the end of the filename.

What is Leia Image Format? Leia Image Format (a.k.a. LIF) is a JPEG picture that is encoded with extra information making the image viewable as a 3D image. Leia devices will automatically identify LIF files as a 3D image and display them in 3D view mode. Leia Image Format is fully backwards compatible as a 2D image on all non-Leia devices. If you send or upload a LIF through a platform that compresses images, depth information may be lost.

Videos are captured in Leia Video Format

MP4: All videos captured in LeiaCam are both 3D and 2D and saved in the Leia Video Format with the file extension .mp4 at the end of the filename.

Leia devices will automatically identify LVF files as a 3D video and display them in 3D view mode. Leia Video Format is fully backwards compatible as a 2D video on all non-Leia devices. If you send or upload an LVF through a platform that compresses video, depth information may be lost.

Take Photos

• When you launch the app, you will open into Photo Capture Mode

• Tap the white capture button to take a photo

• Photos captured by the Lume Pad's Rear Stereo Camera will be in the LIF format (a type of JPEG), which will be viewable in Leia apps in 3D or anywhere else in 2D

Camera Switch

• Tap the camera switch button to switch between the front and rear camera

Preview Image

• Tap the Camera Roll Preview icon in the bottom right corner to view photos you've taken in LeiaCam in the LeiaPlayer app

Take Videos

• Tap the Media Type Switcher button to change to video capture mode

• Tap the white and red capture button to take a video

• Videos captured in LeiaCam are saved in LVF format (a type of MP4), which will be viewable in Leia apps in 3D or anywhere else in 2D

LeiaCam Settings

Grid View

• Tap the Grid Off button to turn on the rule of thirds grid

• Rule of thirds is a common compositional technique that divides your frame into an equal 3x3 grid with two horizontal and vertical lines that intersect at four points

• Place your subject on the left-third or right-third of the frame to create a pleasing composition

Flash

• By default, the camera flash will be turned off

• Tap the flash-off icon to view 3 options: flash on, flash off and auto-flash

• Tap the lightning icon to turn flash on

• Tap the lightning icon with an A to turn auto-flash on

Front and Rear Camera Differences

Rear Camera

Photos and videos from the Rear Camera are always captured in 3D in Leia Image Format and Leia Video Format, which are backwards compatible as 2D files on devices that aren't Lume Pad.
